If you're hoping to have somebody make a dedication
plaque for you, then you need to understand that a lot of work goes
into making something that can hold true to the plaques we've all seen
on the various starships of the Star Trek Universe. On this page,
you'll find links to download templates to the dedication plaques
officially used by ST: ACTD for its starships and stations. While
official plaques for our ships and stations will be created and/or
authorized by the ASDB, the template is being made available to the
public for usage in other RPGs and Star Trek-related activities.
Your authorization to use these templates depends
on the following of one simple rule... that you clearly give ST:ACTD
credit for the creation of the template and provide a link to ST:ACTD,
nothing more. We're not asking for a large banner link, we're not
demanding that an ST:ACTD logo be displayed in ten foot tall letters on
your ship's website. The link consists of this:
"The dedication plaque present on this website was
created using a template for the online RPG Star Trek: A Call to
Duty. If you wish to obtain your own template, please visit
ST:ACTD's Advanced
Starship Design Bureau."
This should be placed either at the bottom of the
page on which the plaque appears, or in a suitable location on your
website specifically designed to give credit to any borrowed materials.
Yes, it's that simple... and what's more, you're doing it with our
permission. We’re taking a great risk making this available
to people, for there'll undoubtedly be those few who try to steal our
work and claim it as their own by not giving proper credit. If it is
found that a vast majority of people steal these plaque templates, rest
assured... any future such materials that the ASDB team create will not
be made available to the public. The only exception to the copyright
statement is for official ST:ACTD starship and station websites that
are using the plaque created and displayed on the main ASDB Plaque
webpage.
Now, on to how the template works. You must have a
copy of Adobe Photoshop 6.0 or greater, though it is recommended you
have at least version 7.0. Adequate knowledge of Photoshop is required
in order to make the plaque work for your particular starship, and
please do NOT ask the ASDB for tutorials on how to use the program.
This template is provided as is, and we offer no assistance in your
usage of it other then providing a means for you to download it from
us. The template essentially consists of a plaque background with
multiple text layers on top of it, which you may edit to fit your
particular ship or station. Three Starfleet emblems are available to be
displayed at the top, the default being the most recent arrowhead used
on the TNG movies, DS-9, and Voyager. You may use the file freely to
create whatever it is you wish, provided the aforementioned template
credit is given. Use the "Save for Web" option in Photoshop to export
the image as a .jpg or .gif file for usage on your website.
If you're interested in making improvements to the
plaque, please contact us and we'll gladly host the file if we find it
to be of higher quality then what we have available here.
Three plaques are available for download, as well
as a required font to properly create an authenticate look. In my
experience, those users currently running Windows XP should already
have this font installed by default. Those who don't will encounter a
message in Photoshop asking for a substitute font, in which case you'll
have to download the font file and unzip it into your C:\Windows\Fonts
folder.
Please note that this template will only
work in Adobe Photoshop, and not other programs such as Paint Shop Pro
or Microsoft Paint. Requests to have plaques created (unless for
ST:ACTD purposes) will unfortunately go unanswered.
